Show Up
is a brand new artist book that documents the kitchen garden project at Bergen Prison
The book includes text contributions by soso brafield, Benedicte Brun, Hanne Frosta, Ane Haga, Målfrid Kallekleiv, Alisa Larsen, Rachel Louis, Carol Stampone and was edited by Nora-Swantje Almes. Designed by PART and printed by Livonia Print.
The Kitchen Garden is a living sculpture by soso brafield that was made together with the women living inside of Bergen Prison, Ane Haga, Helene Myksvoll Kristoffer Brosvik Thorsen, Maria Helena Nerhus and Marius Grønn-Nielsen. It is an intersectional project that embraces education, art, sustainability and craft. Through creative thinking, designing, gardening and cooking, a feminist, non-hierarchical social space grew. The kitchen garden is a green space for mental and physical health, for tactile focus and distractions away from potential life hurdles. The project works with the creation of culinary dishes through all of the phases, from the soil to the table; sowing, growing, cultivating, cooking and eating. Through everyday nuances of care, larger life changing effects can happen.
Show Up was made possible with the generous support of Bergen Kommune and Billedkunstnernes Vederlagsfond.
